Grateful Dead To Release 40th Anniversary Box Set Of Cornell University 1977 Show

Grateful Dead’s performance at Cornell University’s Barton Hall on May 8, 1977, is considered so legendary that a copy of the recording was placed in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2011.

Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic show, a new 11-disc boxed set called May 1977: Get Shown the Light — featuring “the commercial debut” of the Cornell University performance — will be released by Dead.net.

The boxed set will also include an additional three previously unreleased recordings: Veterans’ Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, Connecticut (May 5, 1977), Boston Garden, Boston (May 7, 1977) and Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo, New York (May 9, 1977).

“These four concerts have been the holy grail of wish-list releases both externally and internally for a long, long time,” said David Lemieux, Grateful Dead archivist and the set’s producer, in a statement.

May 1977: Get Shown the Light is now available for pre-order and set to be shipped with a May 5 arrival, marking the anniversary of the first show in the setA limit of 15,000 individual copies being offered exclusively at Dead.net for $139.98.
