Swedish techno producer Adam Beyer plays well with others: he’s put out numerous collaborative records on his Drumcode label, including releases in recent years with Joseph Capriati, Ida Engberg, Alan Fitzpatrick and more.
He enlisted the duo Pig&Dan for his latest project, the four-track Capsule EP. Though he bonded with Dan over a shared love for drum and bass and The Stone Roses, “In Love” is a crisp, streamlined slice of techno. Beyer and co. build the track slowly but surely, adding percussive patterns and deep throbs of bass. The hi-hats here are extra chattery, crisscrossing and changing frequency as if they were borrowed from a trap song.
“I’m very particular about the sound and the dynamic of tracks and have been very picky changing little things here and there,” Beyer says. “It’s common for me to play a track like this in clubs and discover something I feel can be improved, so we change it. For ‘In Love’ I was aiming at something clubby yet quite ethereal. It has familiar samples and hooks but also a deeper driving feel which is very important.”
