Celebrating Something Old With Something New At City Hearts Festival

As Desert Hearts celebrated their 5 Year Anniversary this past weekend in downtown Los Angeles, the only thing different about this party than a standard Desert Hearts Festival was the location. As the crew from San Diego brought the party from the desert to the city streets for the first City Hearts Festival, literally everything was brought in and then some. From the irresistible Pile Palace to the classy Wine & Cheese Party; the ethos of House, Techno and Love was glittered throughout downtown Los Angeles and the scene was set for a night of infamous Desert Hearts movin’ and groovin’. As Porkchop got things warmed up in pure tech house fashion, I ran into Dirtybird player Sacha Robotti upon first entering the festival and from the get go knew this was going to be a special night. I made my way around the various vendors spread throughout the event space and was even surprised to find a few friends vending their art, clothes, necklaces and everything in between as we all know its all about the details when its comes to festival fashion. Another known fact regarding fashion among the Desert Hearts faithful is the fact that when there’s a Desert Hearts party, the ladies are dressed in the finest festival threads. With what I think is the best looking fan base, every beautiful girl is only as beautiful as her smile and there were plenty of those to be found everywhere you looked. Marbs brought the party up a notch with some techno and as the sun set on Los Angeles, the party was just getting started. Papa Lee Reynolds then took the reigns as the pulse of City Hearts was now throbbing to the steady beat of what makes up Desert Hearts; the vibe and the people. With their staple of featuring one stage and only house and techno, nothing but a good time is guaranteed and you are destined to make at least one new life-lasting friend or twenty. As the final set of night began with the entire Desert Hearts Crew, memories of when I attended my first Desert Hearts festival back in fall of 2015 came rushing back to my mind. As we danced the through the family set and smiles glimmered in the reflections of the heart above the stage, it was safe to say City Hearts Festival was yet another love-filled memory that all in attendance will hold close to our Desert Hearts forever.

This spring something new and exciting is taking place in Barbados. From April 4th-8th the stunning Caribbean island will be graced with a new week long music festival. Vujaday, which is defined as “an entirely new experience” and “like nothing you have ever seen or felt before,” will take place in a variety of unique locations around the island, leaving the first and last day of the week-long journey for travel.

Vujaday initially dropped their Phase One lineup back in November, which included Toronto electronic legend Art Department, All Day I Dream founder Lee Burridge, Chicago house hero Green Velvet, San Francisco resident and Dirtybird favorite Justin Martin, Life and Death founder DJ Tennis, Crew Love members Wolf + Lamb, Lonely C (Soul Clap), Nick Monaco and The Fitness & Pony, Hot Creations founder Lee Foss, Brooklyn duo Bedouin, Mikey Lion and Lee Reynolds from Desert Hearts, Italian electronic DJ Francesca Lombardo, Los Angeles house DJ Lauren Lane, UK electronic duo Solardo, and Nottingham tech house producer Latmun.

With the festival only a few months away, Vujaday has now returned with a stacked phase two lineup that includes Toolroom Records founder and a legendary name in the world of electronic music Mark Knight, San Francisco based house DJ atish, Toronto resident and Hot Creations signee Nathan Barato, Berlin house aficionada YokoO, Burning Man favorite Behrouz, Vienna based techno DJ Cassy, Brazilian born DJ Gaby Endo, New York resident and Ibiza favorite Salomé, renowned Canadian DJ Nitin, dreamy Toronto based project Lost Boy, and rising Miami house and techno producer m.O.N.R.O.E. To top things off, there will also be a rare B2B2B set with veteran DJs Danny Howells, Darren Emerson, and Dave Seaman.

The five primary events will run from Wednesday through Sunday during Vujaday with the largest event on Saturday. Events will take place on the Southern, Eastern and Western coasts of the island. More information related to specific events and venues is scheduled to be announced in the next few weeks.

An electronic event of this scale has yet to take place in Barbados, and is meant to create an unforgettable experience for locals and travelers. Locals will get the chance to experience techno and house DJs from around the world, many who have never performed in Barbados, while those new to the island will receive a much wider experience than they would normally get on a typical visit.

The team behind Vujaday will be bringing decades of experience in the festival and event space to the beautiful island of Barbados. This includes industry veterans that have been involved in the creation and operation of Toronto based events like Digital Dreams Music Festival, Electric Island, World Electronic Music Festival and All Day I Dream. Grab your tickets here for this special gathering and we’ll see you beach side.

You certainly heard that song last summer on the radio or at a festival. The singer of the smash summer dance track ‘Cola’ just started his North American headlining tour. He was nominated at Sunday night’s GRAMMY Awards for Best Dance Recording as a featured vocalist on the summer dance hit song ‘Cola’ produced by the British producer/DJ duo Camelphat. Undoubtedly the biggest and most addictive dance music record of 2017, ‘Cola’ has captivated tastemakers, DJs and clubbers alike – currently sitting at #1 at US Dance Radio after reaching #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. The song celebrates 55 million streams to date, and was the highest selling track on Beatport in 2017.

On Tuesday night, I had the chance to watch Elderbrook play his first show of his North American headlining tour in Miami. His live performance was incredible and full of energy. Here is a little preview of what he is able to do on stage.

Elderbrook is definitely one to watch in 2018! Make sure to follow him on social media.
